Robert Thomas “Tom” Larson, age 72, of Elgin, passed away October 6, 2019 in Elgin. He was born September 4, 1947 in Chicago to his loving parents, Robert and Jane Larson (nee McDonough).
Tom graduated from Maine East Hight School, Class of 1965. He served in the United States Army with the 25th Infantry Division, Tropic Lightning, during the Vietnam War, 1967 -1969. He achieved the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and was awarded the the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and the Combat Infantry Badge, among other awards.
Following his service, Tom worked as a millwright. He was an active member of American Legion Post 57, serving on the Honor Guard. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford.
Tom is survived by his children, Krista (Matthew) Rickerson, and Brian (Tiffany) Larson; grandchildren, Matthew, Colton and Cadence; and nephew Jason Larson and niece Rachael Larson.
Visitation will be 1:00p.m. until time of service with military honors at 4:00p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin IL 60160, Rev. Tim Perry officiating. Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
