Joel Komi Amegee, of Chicago, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2017. Amegee was born in Togo, West Africa on February 1, 1964.
Joel was an accountant by training and worked a number of years at the general merchandise store, SCOA, in Togo before moving to the United States in 1993 with his only sister and brother-in-law. He was working as a professional cab driver when he passed away.
Loved ones will remember Joel’s good sense of humor and easy-going nature. He was beloved by children and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. In his free time, Joel loved to travel across the United States.
Joel is survived by his son Edem Marius Amegee, his sister Ahlimba Edwige (Boevi) Lawson, his mother Dedegan N’Gonou, and many relatives.
Visitation will be 6:00PM – 8:00PM. Thursday September 21, 2017 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin IL 60120. A funeral procession will depart from the funeral home at 11:00AM Friday, September 22, 2017 for interment 11:30AM at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd, Elgin. A memorial mass will be held 10:30AM Sunday, September 24, 2017 at St. Marcelline Catholic Church, 822 S Springinsguth Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60193.
