Don Alan Wallace, age 85, of Genoa, IL, passed away January 18, 2020 at Bickford Senior Living in St. Charles, IL. Don was born August 21, 1934 in Waukegan, IL to Gerald F. Van Keuren and Hazel E. Gross. He was later adopted by Dave Wallace.
Don spent his childhood in Barrington, IL. At a young age after high school he moved to Texas to compete in rodeos riding bucking broncos. This is where he found his love for the west and horses. He was also enlisted as a B-52 Bomber repairman at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane Washington.
Don went on to work as a owner/operator truck driver for 40 years.
Don married the love of his life, Marilyn. They shared more than 35 years together, until Marilyn’s passing in 2006.
Loved ones will remember Don as a hardworking family man, who treasured time with his family. In his free time, Don enjoyed fishing, spending time with his beloved dogs Baxter and Duke, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which he purchased at age 70.
Don was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn.
Don is survived by his children, James (Nikki) Wallace, Dan (Cindy) Wallace, and Sharon Wallace; brother Kenneth (Betty) Van Keuren; sister Judy Philips; grandchildren Jaelyn Wallace, Nevyn Wallace, Clifford Kammin, and Jake Kammin; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 12:00p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 3:00p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin IL 60120. Since Don was not a man who endorsed formality, the family requests family and friends wear casual attire.
Private Burial of ashes will be on Jan 31, 2010 at Little Woods Cemetery, approximately located at 7N150 Dunham Rd (400 ft southeast of Stearns Rd), St. Charles, IL 60184. Contact Don’s son, Jim Wallace, if you would like to attend.
Flowers may be sent, in addition memorial donations may be given to Dementia Society of America.
