Paul David Ludwig, age 84, passed away on December 13, 2017 in Winfield IL, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born in Mitchell, South Dakota on December 15, 1932 to Irven and Dorothy (Doty) Ludwig.
Shortly after graduating high school at age 17, Paul attended the Davey Institute of TreeSciences in Kent, Ohio. This began an over 50-year career of caring for trees all over the Chicagoland area, his most memorable on the Colonel McCormick estate, now Cantigny Park in Wheaton. He married Irene Cork on September 12, 1953, after his discharge from the U.S. Army. They lived most of their married life in Glen Ellyn, IL where they raised their eight children. Paul will be remembered by his family and many others as a quiet, gentle, hard-working man of few words, with a subtle sense of humor, who loved birds and loved to climb trees (the taller the better).
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, and his two sons-in-law, Kip Blair and Dean Guy.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Ludwig; children, Marlin (Sherrie) Ludwig, Marcia (William) Wright, Keith (Lorie) Ludwig, Karen (Michael) Hillenbrand, Gloria Guy, Glenna (Jon) Gabriele, Dawn (Anthony) Ambach, and David (Sarah) Ludwig; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Elgin Church of the Nazarene, 12N101 Berner Drive, Elgin, IL, on Sunday, December 17, 4-6 PM and 7-9 PM, and on Monday, December 18, 10-11 The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18, 11 AM at the Elgin Church of the Nazarene.
